Regional waterworks
Introduction
Even kindergarten children know that water is a treasure. But how is it produced? Where does it come to our glass from?
The aim of the two-part activity is for pupils to learn about the water cycle, the steps and possibilities of producing drinking water in their own environment, through their own experience. (E.g. waterworks visit in Budapest or in other regions)
Pupils might use this experience to develop their own environmentally conscious thinking about responsible water consumption.
The experience is gained through pre-arranged field visit and aspects of observation. During the lesson, students first summarise the concepts and processes they have learned and then reflect on them to develop their own environmental thinking.
Objectives
• Experiential learning through field visit
• Transfer of knowledge gained during field visit to school and
everyday life
• Planning how to reduce water consumption in one’s own environment
• Developing environmental thinking
Learning outcomes
By the end of this learning scenario, students will be able to:
• understand/ make causal links between the production of drinking
water and the need for responsible consumption
• develop a responsible attitude towards drinking water consumption
• play a positive and active role in responsible water consumption
• develop the habit of water saving
• develop critical thinking when observing water consumption
