Introduction
This workshop is designed to immerse participants in an in-depth understanding of the avian world and its crucial connection to biodiversity. It aims to empower students to not only appreciate the natural world but also comprehend the crucial link between birds, biodiversity, and
conservation practices. It aims to inspire participants to actively contribute to the preservation of local environment and birds, paving the way
for a more sustainable and resilient future.
Objectives
- To educate secondary school students about the impact of birds in maintaining biodiversity, fostering an understanding of the unique adaptations and behaviours of birds.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this learning scenario, students will be able to:
- List and describe the key anatomical features and adaptations of birds
- Explain the significance of bird behaviours, such as courtship displays and feeding habits
- Apply their knowledge of bird identification tools
- Demonstrate proper birdwatching etiquette and behaviour to minimize disturbance
- Analyse the ecological roles of birds, including their contributions to pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control.
- Create a birdwatching journal, recording the species observed, their behaviors, and the habitat characteristics
- Evaluate the importance of bird diversity as an indicator of ecosystem health
